Quick Summary

For over 20 years, Bronson has supported the Department of Fisheries and Oceans (DFO) in fulfilling its mandated departmental reporting requirements related to energy consumption and greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions in accordance with the Federal Sustainable Development Strategy and Greening Government Strategy, as well as previous frameworks.

Collaborating closely with DFO’s Office of Environmental Coordination, Bronson oversees reports for more than 160 facilities, an on-road fleet exceeding 1,500 vehicles, and a National Safety and Security (Coast Guard) fleet comprising marine vessels and helicopters.

Each year, Bronson’s dedicated efforts play a vital role in helping DFO report to the Treasury Board Secretariat on its progress toward achieving GHG emissions targets set for 2025 and 2050.

Project Overview

Bronson delivers yearly program management assistance to the Department of Fisheries and Oceans (DFO) for Energy Data Collection, Analysis, and Greenhouse Gas Emissions Reporting, in alignment with the mandates set forth by the Federal Sustainable Development Strategy and the Greening Government Strategy.

The Challenge

  • To assist DFO to report annual departmental energy consumption and GHG emissions.
  • To assemble and verify raw data reported from a variety of internal departmental sources.
  • To complete Federal Greening Government Reporting Templates for Facilities, On-Road Vehicles and for Coast Guard’s NSS Fleet of Marine Vessels and Aircraft.
  • To report on departmental emissions sources, year-over-year trends, comparisons to baseline data, and progress toward departmental emissions targets.

Our Solution and Impact

Over the past two decades, Bronson has collaborated with numerous Project Authorities, contributing vital institutional knowledge pertinent to the Department of Fisheries and Oceans (DFO)’s energy and greenhouse gas (GHG) reporting initiatives. To ensure the accuracy of the completed GHG Accounting and Reporting Templates, Bronson implements various methods for validating raw data, guaranteeing that the figures accurately represent DFO’s energy usage and GHG emissions. Further, Bronson developed a highly concise and readable accompanying final report that clearly presents results for the current year, compared to baseline and target emissions as well as an Excel tool to depict the impacts of weather on energy consumption at 59 major facilities.
